Ellen Higgins Keiger
Mrs. Ellen Higgins Keiger, age 81, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Keiger was born November 20, 1927 on Long Island, NY to John and Margaret Murphy Higgins. She was educated in New York City Schools, Richmond Hill, Long Island, NY. She moved to Winston-Salem in January, 1949. She was last employed in the Personnel Office at Hanes Hosiery Co. She was a member of Saint Leo The Great Catholic Church. Mrs. Keiger is survived by her husband of 54 years, retired Winston-Salem Police Captain, William (Bill) Lee Keiger; a son and daughter-in-law, William Lee Keiger, Jr. and Stephanie Bowers Keiger and two dear grandchildren, Nicholas Lee Keiger and Caroline Grace Keiger, all of Charlotte, NC; her beloved sister, Mrs. Claude Frederick (Marianne) and niece, Marianne Lee (Anne Lee) Frederick of Winston-Salem; a sister-in-law, Janet A. Keiger of Levittown, PA; nephew Bob Keiger and wife, Bonnie Secor Keiger of Simpsonville, SC; niece Mary Elizabeth Bost of Winston-Salem and many cousins in the U. S. and Ireland and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother and father. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the compassionate care provided by Dr. Nick Chrysson and the entire Oncology staff at Forsyth Medical Center. Many thanks to her faithful caregivers, Vanessa and Gaynelle, for their wonderful work as well. Visitation will be at Salem Funeral Home on Sunday, May 3, from 7-9:00 p.m. with funeral services held at Saint Leo The Great Catholic Church, 335 Springdale Avenue, on Monday, May 4, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
