Gloria Batchelor King
Mrs. Gloria Batchelor King, 83, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at the Triad United Methodist Home of complications from Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born in Raleigh, NC on May 22, 1925, the daughter of John Vann and Eula Belle Moore Batchelor. Gloria graduated from Needham Broughton High School and Peace College in Raleigh. In 1947 she married James Frank King of Leaksville, NC. They lived in Hartford, CT before moving to Winston-Salem, where Mr. King worked first for the Bahnson Company, and later for Hanes Corporation. When Mr. King died in 1989, Gloria moved to the Triad United Methodist Home. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, the Westwood Garden Club, and the Winston-Salem Junior League. Her life was dedicated to being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Lynda King Morris and her husband, Frank; her granddaughter, Colby Morris Murphy and her husband, Sean; and her great-grandchildren, Millicent Weeks Murphy and John McCarthy Murphy. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2008 at Centenary United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jack Yarbrough officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the church fellowship hall. There will be a private burial service at Salem Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the entire staff of the Triad United Methodist Home (and especially the Special Care Unit in the Fitzgerald Building) for over 14 years of care. Memorials may be made to the Triad United Methodist Home, 1240 Arbor Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104 or to Centenary United Methodist Church, 646 W. 5th Street,Winston-Salem, NC 27101. Salem Funeral & Cremation Services is in charge of the arrangements.
