Betty Jean “Betty” Minton Kapp
Apr 27, 1931 - Mar 08, 2018
Betty Jean “Betty” Minton Kapp of Rural Hall, 86, passed away March 8, 2018 in Winston-Salem.

Betty was born April 27, 1931 in Wilkes County. She grew up in Ferguson in “Happy Valley” on the banks of the Yadkin River, where her grandparents Dossie and Matt – “Mama” and “Papa” - Minton ran a country store.

After graduating from high school in Wilkesboro, Betty moved to Winston-Salem to attend Draughon’s Business College and then went to work for Prudential Insurance in Winston-Salem. Shortly thereafter, she met William H. “Bill” Kapp of Rural Hall on a blind date. Their romance lasted more than six decades. Betty and Bill married November 22, 1952 and remained devoted to each other until Bill’s passing in October of 2014.

Betty’s greatest joys were her family and her home. She liked cooking, playing bridge, collecting antiques and decorating, especially for the holidays. She was particularly skilled at arranging flowers, a talent which won her many ribbons at the Dixie Classic Fair.

Betty was an active member of the Rural Hall Woman’s Club, the Busy Fingers Garden Club and her circle at Kingswood United Methodist Church. She read widely and enjoyed traveling, especially to Colonial Williamsburg and other historic sites and to the British Isles.

She is survived by her sons Michael Keith Kapp of Raleigh and Karl William Kapp of Winston-Salem; their wives Chancy Kapp and Toni Kapp; grandchildren Jonathan William Kapp of Chapel Hill, Mary Katherine Kapp Muto of Asheville and Jacob Madison Kapp of Winston-Salem; brother Johnny Mack Turner and his wife Jeanette of Lenoir; niece Cindy Turner Smith and her husband Ike of Lenoir; nephew Johnny Turner and his wife Amy of Lenoir; and great-nephews Ethan Turner, Aaron Turner and Turner Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family will receive visitors on Friday, March 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Salem Funeral and Cremations at 120 South Main Street in Winston-Salem. There will be a graveside service officiated by Betty's cousin Rev. Horace Minton at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 10 at Rural Hall Memorial Park at 531 Tobaccoville Road, adjacent to Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church.

The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the caregivers from Bayada Home Health Care, including Taylor Anders, Brittany Beasley, Janie Carter, Linda Crews, Jackie Johnson, Deanna Leake, Joann McBride, Loretta McQueen, and Carla Young, and to the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care Center, whose loving care enabled Betty to remain in her beloved home until her last few days.

Memorials may be made to the JC Raulston Arboretum at North Carolina State University, Campus Box 7522, Raleigh, NC 27695-7522, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
