Arthur Lee Cash
Oct 06, 1925 - Feb 07, 2018
Forsyth County
Arthur Lee Cash, 92, passed away on February 7, 2018 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. A longtime resident of Winston-Salem, Art moved to the city in 1948 and lived at Brookridge Retirement Community for the past seven years.

Born in Granville County near Oxford, NC on October 6, 1925, Art was the second-born child and the eldest of three sons of the late James Walter and Alma Ragland Cash.

When he was 16 years old he entered Wake Forest College, but his studies were interrupted by World War II.  He served with the U.S. Army Medical Department in New Guinea and the Philippines, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.  His decorations included the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign and Philippine Liberation medals with a total of three bronze service stars.  He resumed his education at Wake Forest in 1946 and graduated with a BS degree in Business Administration in 1948.  He later received a master’s degree from the same institution.  He worked 40 years for RJR Industries, retiring from the Treasurer’s Department in 1988.

In 1960 Art joined Knollwood Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and teacher in several departments of the church.  He also was a proud member of the Roddick Sunday School class.  He was a volunteer at Baptist Hospital for ten years and later served as a volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels.  While he was active in many other areas of church and civic life, he found his highest fulfillment as a senior serving seniors.

In addition to his parents, Art was preceded in death by his sister, Janie Mary Cash Hecht, and his brother, Oliver Howell Cash.  He is survived by his son, Arthur Lee Cash, Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC; his brother, James Walter Cash, Jr. (Ramona) of Clayton, NC; his sister-in-law, Mattie Sue Cash of Oxford, NC; and several nieces and a nephew.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 12, at 2:00 p.m. at Knollwood Baptist Church, 330 Knollwood Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27104.  Visitation will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials  may be made to Knollwood Baptist Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
