Barbara Jean Lumley passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on August 12, 1938 to Cecil and Lucille Gantt. She was retired from Stroh’s Brewery. Barbara loved spending time at Holden Beach and she was an avid reader. She is survived by her partner of many years, Talmadge Baker. She leaves behind a son, Chris Lumley (Toka) of Kernersville, a daughter, Renee Parker Nedriga (George) of Winston-Salem. She also leaves three grandchildren: Crystal Lumley of Kernersville, Chad Lumley of King and Taylor Parker of Winston-Salem. In addition, she also leaves a step-granddaughter, Lindsay Nedriga of Winston-Salem; one great-grandson, J. D. Dooley; a very devoted sister, Ruby Sapp and two special nieces: Tammy Parks of Advance and Pam Sheek of Winston-Salem and she also leaves behind Jack Lumley of Kernersville. She was preceded in death by a very special brother-in-law, Robert Sapp. Barbara also leaves behind her three maltese dogs, Presley, Sampson and Lil’ Bit. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you plant a tree in her honor. Donations may be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family will receive visitors at the home of her daughter, Renee, at 142 Angel Drive on Wednesday evening, November 21. A private memorial will be held at a later date at Holden Beach, NC. The family would especially like to thank the staff and volunteers at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for the wonderful care and compassion they gave to the entire family during this difficult time.
