Emmett H. Lacy, Jr.

Emmett H. Lacy, Jr. (Sonny), 74 of Winston-Salem, NC passed away on Monday August 6, 2012. He was born in Winston-Salem on August 11, 1937 to Emmett H. Lacy Sr. and Priscilla Burton Lacy. Mr. Lacy attended R.J. Reynolds High School and graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1959 where he was President of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. In 1982, he attended the executive program at UNC Chapel Hill. He retired from R.J.R. Tobacco Co. in 1992 as purchasing director. Mr. Lacy was a long time member of the Purchasing Management Association of the Carolinas-Virginia where he served as President in 1985. He also served on the board of directors of the Winston-Salem YMCA, Young Life and Alpha Tau Chapter of Sigma Chi Fraternity, Chapel Hill. Mr. Lacy served as President and Chairman of the Triad Minority Supplier Development Council.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sally Beverly Lacy; his son, David Beverly Lacy of New York; his daughter and son-in-law, Joanie and John Preyer of Chapel Hill and their children, Margaret Lacy Preyer and John Peter Preyer, Jr.; his sister and her husband, Shirley and Skip Henderson of Galax, VA.; and his brother-in-law and his wife, George and Sandra Beverly of Asheville.

A private family graveside service will be held in Salem Cemetery followed by a memorial service at St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 10, 2012. Following the service a reception will be held at Forsyth Country Club.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103, Blowing Rock United Methodist Church,1314 Main St., Blowing Rock, NC 28227 or Centenary United Methodist Church, 646 West 5th St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101.

Gray & Margaret Steifel I grew up on the ballfields and playground of Ardmore Elementary with Sonny, and of course RJR high. Sonny was extremely popular and he will be missed by many I'm sure. Sally, Margaret and I are thinking of you and your family at this difficult time.
Perry Mauzy My heart and prayers are with you Lacy family. I will always remember what fun I had at your family home when I was a child at holiday parties. Sonny was such a good friend to my parents as well. He will be missed. Lots of love is being sent from Pawleys Island, SC.

Sonny was the best boss I had at RJR and was always a true gentleman. He was a pleasure to work for. Always a smile for everyone. I know you will miss him.
