Edwin "Holt" Williamson, III
Loving father and devoted husband, Edwin Holt Williamson III – better known to his friends and family as “Holt” – passed away peacefully on the morning of July 7, 2012 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice in Winston-Salem. Though born to Louise Cooper Nimocks and Edwin Holt Williamson Jr. on November 24, 1952 in Washington, D.C, Holt grew up a true southern gentleman in Winston-Salem. His early education was at Summit School, and his high school years were spent playing football, soccer, and running track at McCallie Military Academy in Chattanooga, TN. A devoted Tar Heel fan from a young age, it was no surprise that Holt then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His education was interrupted by service as a signalman in the United States Navy and Naval Reserves. Holt then returned to complete his education and earned a degree in Business at UNC in 1977.
He then followed in his father’s footsteps working with McLean Trucking Company for a number of years, during which time he met his wife Darlene Sims of Cordele, Ga. They married in 1981 and returned to Winston-Salem in the mid-1980s where they raised two daughters with whom Holt shared endless love and his passion for sports. His love for his daughters and sports was evident as he coached them and their teammates on numerous youth sports teams. Holt was passionate about his community, devoting time and energy to Highland Presbyterian Church where he served on various committees and the session, and touched the lives of many young people as a youth advisor. He also dedicated his time and talents serving Samaritan Ministries, the local food bank, and Junior Achievement, as well as many other service organizations. Holt worked for 26 years as a financial consultant in Winston-Salem – most recently employed with two dear friends at Pennington Financial.
In addition to love of family and friends, Holt’s second loves were golf and Tar Heel athletics. If he could not be found at home or church, one just needed to head to Tanglewood Park, where he was a member of the TGA. Those who know Holt have fond memories of him on the golf course; watching Carolina basketball games – often while shouting at the TV with a bag of M&Ms in hand; shagging to beach music; or sharing laughter and jokes in jovial conversation. He always shared a positive attitude, beaming smile, and never met a stranger.
Holt is survived by his wife, Darlene; daughters, Ashley and Jessica; sister, Kit Williamson; sister and brother-in-law, Forrest and Stewart Priddy; and numerous nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews. Holt is preceded by his parents, Edwin Holt Williamson Jr. and Louise Cooper Nimocks, and sister, Louise Bailey.
Visitation will be held at Salem Funerals and Cremations on the corner of Reynolda and Polo Roads from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 14. A memorial service will take place at Highland Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 15. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina or Kate B. Reynolds Hospice in Winston-Salem.

Darlene and family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. No words can ease the pain but know that our Lord has his arms around you and knowing that one day you will be reunited with your Husband, Dad, loved one there can be peace. I did not have the pleasure of knowing Holt but I do know that his legacy will continue in the hearts and lives of each of you.
Please know that each of you are in my prayers.

I enjoyed working with Holt at Smith Barney. We had great talks about golf and The Big Break. He loved to talk about his daughters and their accomplishments. He shared information about USC that was instrumental in my daughter applying to USC and becoming a Gamecock. My thoughts and prayers are with you,
Ann Cea

Dear Darlene, Ashley and Jessica...
Although I had the blessing of personally meeting your wonderful husband and father only one time, I feel that I have known him for a long, long time. He was my Dad's financial advisor for many years and then continued as advisor for me and my sister. Each time I called, he made me feel like his only client. I loved that southern accent of his and his easy going nature. I heard in his voice how proud he was of each of you and how much love there was in your family. No words can express how sorry I am for your loss. Please know that all of you are in my thoughts and prayers as you deal with that loss.
God bless all of you!

I was member of the McCallie School graduating class of 1971 with Holt. Even though I spent only one year at McCallie, I considered Holt to be a true friend. He had an engaging personality, infectious laugh and a great smile. Holt was an all around great guy and I am better person for having known him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

I haven't seen Holt since our McCallie days. He was a fine gentleman and a French scholar. I always enjoyed his company, his amusing wit and his affable nature.
God bless
