Willmanelle "Willie" Campbell Bond

Willmanelle “Willie” Campbell Bond dies at 99.

Willmanelle Campbell Bond was born and reared in Cuba, Illinois. She and her husband, Oral, raised their two children, Kathryn and Gene, in Wheaton Illinois where she was involved in many civic activities including the Woman’s Club and Gad Abouts and as a hospital volunteer and a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church. Willie and Oral moved to Winston Salem in 1989 to be close to family. They resided at Brookridge Retirement Community. Oral died in 1990 and Willie began a “new” life as an active member of Brookridge where she lived independently until April of this year. She was also a member of College Park Baptist Church. As one of the most loved and contributing residents at Brookridge, Willie left a legacy of gentility, grace and friendship.

Willie is survived by her daughter Kathryn Bond Williams of Winston-Salem, 4 grandchildren, Kim Merrill, Brock Himan, Jeannette Brown and Tom Williams, their spouses, 8 great grandchildren and a large number of devoted friends.

The family will welcome friends at a visitation at 1 pm on Friday, with a memorial service immediately following at 2:00 PM, at Salem Funeral Home at 120 S. Main St in Winston Salem.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that contributions in Willie’s name be given to the Brookridge Benevolent Fund, 1199 Hayes Forest Dr., Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
