Dr. Charles Nicholas Remy

Winston-Salem - Dr. Charles Nicholas Remy, 87, died on January 26, 2012 at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC after a 3 month illness. Dr. Remy was born in Hudson, NY, and has been preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Theresa, his brother Anton Jr., and his son Wayne. Dr. Remy received his bachelor and PhD degrees from Syracuse University, and completed his postdoctoral training at MIT. In 1962 he accepted a position at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine as a Professor of Biochemistry. In 1994 he was honored with a Professor Emeritus status upon his retirement, but continued tutoring through a volunteer program he helped establish.
He was a long time active member of Centenary United Methodist Church, active in community and political organizations, and loved to spend time at Lake Norman with his wife, family and friends. Dr. Remy is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Wanda, and three daughters, Beth Whitsett, Ellen Young, and Sarah Remy. He is further survived by a daughter-in-law, two son-in-laws, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 31st at 3:00 pm at Centenary United Methodist Church in downtown Winston-Salem followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. His family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Network in memory of Dr. Remy’s beloved son, Wayne who passed away in 2003. Priscilla (Remy) Elderkin	To Aunt Wanda, Beth, Ellie, and Sarah: I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Uncle Chuck. It was always fun for me to sit and listen to his stories of my Dad and him growing up in Hudson with Chuck as an unwilling (?) accomplice to Anton's legendary escapades. My imagination ran wild! Dan Moury	Wanda: You probably don't remember me. I joined the Biochemistry Department about 1964 and only stayed 2-3 years. Although we did.t really work to gether much, I always enjoyed Chuck's company as a colleague. We moved back to the area in 2003 to be near our kids who both settled here. Carolyn and I both send our thoughts and best wishes
