James Singleton Lassing
Mr. James Singleton Lassing, passed away, Wednesday,January 25, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC. He was born January 27, 1927 to Frances and Henry C. Lassing.
Mr. Lassing graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1950 and served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy from 1950 - 1954. After completion of his military service he earned a Master of Science degree in the Industrial Engineering Department at the University of Tennessee. He started his civilian career as an industrial engineer with General Electric Corporation. He later moved to Rock Hill, SC to work for Celanese Corporation as Superintendent of Operations Analysis. In 1974 he joined the faculty of York Technical College where he headed the Industrial Engineering and Industrial Management Technology department until his retirement in 1987. In retirement he enjoyed travel with his wife, volunteer work and family activity.
He was a committed Christian, a long time member of Oakland Baptist Church and a founding member of New Kirk Baptist Church, both in Rock Hill. Upon moving to Salemtowne in Winston-Salem, he became active at Burkhead UMC.
Jim is survived by his wife, Harriet; daughter: Kathy Lisle (Greg Lisle); and son: David (Rosana Lassing); and two grandchildren: Carrie Lisle and Anabela Lassing. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Henry.
A Service of Death and Resurrection will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, at
Burkhead UMC with Rev. Kathie Clontz Sherrill officiating and Rev. Linda Browne assisting. A visitation will follow
after the service.
Memorials may be made to Burkhead UMC, 5252 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
