M. June Nifong

Clemmons – Mrs. M. June Nifong, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away surrounded by loving family early Monday, January 23, 2012. Born in Forsyth County on November 6, 1923, June graduated from R.J. Reynolds high school in 1941. She was an active mother and grandmother, known by all for her sewing, knitting, and cooking (especially her chocolate cake!). A patient teacher, she will be remembered as a gentle woman with a spunky streak. She worked as a bookkeeper for her father’s company and at the Buena Vista Shoppe for 18 years and was a member of Hebron United Church of Christ. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Reid Nifong Sr., her parents, J.H. and Bertha Miller, two brothers, Jack and James Miller, and her devoted companion, Snickers. Surviving is one brother, Bill Miller, a son, Reid Nifong, Jr. (partner Bill Robertson), her daughter and caregiver, Sherry Gabard, granddaughter, Christina Gabard (fiancé Mike Thyberg), grandson and caregiver Travis Gabard (wife Alexis Rejeski Gabard), and a grand-dog, Winston. The family wishes to thank the staff of Hospice, especially triage nurses Kim and Donna and CNA Aashley Dalton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Grandma June’s honor to Hospice and Palliative CareCenter. There will be a graveside service Wednesday, January 25th at 11:00 a.m. at Hebron United Church of Christ, Midway, NC.
