Helen Edith Webb
Winston-Salem - Helen Edith Webb, 84, passed away Saturday morning, July 30, 2011 at her residence in Brighton Gardens of Winston-Salem. Helen was born May 7, 1927 in Glenolden, PA to the late Edith Quay and Martin Gilder Webb. She graduated from Glen-Nor High School in 1945 and completed a business degree at Peirce College in Philadelphia, PA. She worked as a secretary for Rohm and Haas, also in Philadelphia, retiring in 1992 at age 65. She was a favorite aunt of her four nieces.
Helen enjoyed reading, playing the piano and gardening. She used her considerable artistic talents as a volunteer at Folcroft Library, delighting children and creating beautiful and interesting art work to encourage their interest in reading. She subscribed annually to several series of plays, operas and symphony music performances, which she enjoyed with friends. In October 2009, Helen relocated to Winston-Salem to be near her brother and his family.
Miss Webb is survived by her loving and devoted brother, Dr. Martin G. Webb, Jr. of Winston-Salem, and by her four nieces and their families; Sarah Peterson and husband Martin Peterson of Winston-Salem, Patricia Evertz and husband Roy Evertz of Los Angeles, CA, Virginia Webb and husband Ben Krepp of Arlington, MA, and Judith Malionek and husband The Rev. Thomas Malionek of Hyattsville, MD; and by two great-nieces, Katherine Peterson and Renata Malionek; and one great-nephew, Joseph Malionek.
A memorial service will be held at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem, 2575 Parkway Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 on Friday, August 5, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. There will be a memorial service in Glenolden, PA and private burial in Valley Forge, PA on Tuesday, August 9, 2011.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Society of St. Andrew, 3383 Sweet Hollow Road, Big Island, VA 24526 in memory of Helen E. Webb.
