Celeste Brewer Kirkman
Pfafftown - Mrs. Celeste Brewer Kirkman, 94, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Vienna Village in Pfafftown. She was born in Forsyth County on December 3, 1916 to Luther William and Hattie Ferguson Brewer. She graduated from Reynolds High School in 1933 and attended Salem College School of Music. She and her father sang together and had a radio program on WSJS in 1929 and 1930. They also travelled to different churches in the area and sang and played the piano for church services. She was married to the late Albert R. Kirkman for 64 years.
Mrs. Kirkman was a substitute teacher at West Forsyth High School from 1972 to 1979. She was a member of Lewisville United Methodist Church where she was active until her health declined. For the past eight years, she lived at Vienna Village Retirement Community.
Mrs. Kirkman is survived by her four children: A. Reece Kirkman (Becky) of Advance, Betsy Cooksey (Richard) of Spartanburg, SC, W. Stephen Kirkman (Anne) of Lewisville and Beverly Davis (Dean) of Lewisville; six grandchildren: Mark Kirkman, Kent Kirkman (Lisa), Eric Kirkman, Jason Davis (Stephanie), Kelly Davis, and Ashley Kirkman; and three great-grandchildren: Madison Kirkman, Avery Kirkman and Celeste Kirkman.
A graveside service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, June 25, at Forsyth Memorial Park with Rev. Keith Bingham officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, June 24, at Salem Funeral Home, 120 S. Main Street.
The family would like to thank Vienna Village for the wonderful care their mother received.
