Roland Robert DeMers, Sr.  

Mr. Roland Robert DeMers, Sr., 84, of Walkertown, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday evening at Forsyth Memorial Hospital.

Mr. DeMers was born in Lowell, MA Jan. 29, 1923 to Francis A. and Albina Lameraux DeMers. He was a wonderful, loving husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather who loved his wife and children more than life itself.

Mr. DeMers served in the U.S. Army/Air Corps during World War II and was a retired employee of Salem Paper Company. He was a longtime member of Gospel Light Baptist Church where he was secretary of the Men’s Sunday School Class, usher, and where he worked in the bus ministry and was instrumental in organizing breakfast for bus workers every Saturday morning for 15 years. He was preceded in death by a sister, Annette Joines, a brother, Raymond DeMers, a son, Kim Darrell DeMers, and a great grandson, Aydan Mabe.

Surviving is his best friend and wife of 62 years, Edith Hutchins DeMers, of the home,

one son, Roland Robert (Bobby) DeMers, Jr. and his wife Sylvia and his children, Bobbie Lynn DeMers, Crystal DeMers and partner Ernie Jessup, three daughters: Frances Albina Roach and her husband Mallory and their children, Stephanie (Brett) Clark, Lory (Randy) Mabe, Betty DeMers Parkes and her husband Richard and their children Sara, Emily and Molly, and Cynthia DeMers Howell and her husband Keith, and their children Jason and Joshua, four great grandchildren: Alexandra, Kristen, Aaron and Taryn Lynn, and one sister, Blanche McGrade, Dracut, MA and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Salem Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Bobby Roberson. Entombment will follow in Gardens of Memory Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and request that any memorials be made to Gospel Light Baptist Church Bus Ministry, the American Heart Association or to Hospice of Stokes County.

The family would like to especially thank Miranda, Amber and Carman of Hospice.
